After-Con and Chris Oatley

Oh my god Youmacon was a blast! Steam Powered Giraffe was AMAZING and I LOVE Hatchworth and the Spine and Rabbit and ALL THE FANGIRL SQUEALS–sorry I got a little excited there. Really, they were all very sweet people, and very huggable. Seriously, I hugged each and every band member, including the drummer. The drummer hugged me so big he lifted me off the ground a little! I was so excited I forgot to get a picture with them, but you know, I got my CD autographed by everybody and they all gave me hugs. That’s WAY better than a picture, I feel like.

And at the con I got SO MUCH NERD GEAR. Now I have Steam Powered Giraffe buttons and wrist-bands, an ocarina, a bajillion posters, more buttons, and new T-shirts! I’ll post pictures here soon, but I shared a few on my Tumblr if you dig through all the posts (sorry, I reblog like a fiend): magicallikethat.tumblr.com if you’re interested.

I even got to meet some sweet artists! Donald McCoullough was a sweety and his art is SO DROOL-WORTHY. Check it out here: donworks.tumblr.com

Also Comfort and Adam were really nice. They even signed the Doctor Who and Rainbow in the Dark posters I got! Their comics look pretty sweet, though I haven’t had the chance to read them yet. You can check them out here: comfortandadam.com

DauntingFire is someone I didn’t get a chance to really meet in person–every time I got to their table they disappeared. But their art is FABULOUS.

AND ZZYZZYY! OMG she’s such a nice lady! And her Hunter x Hunter fanart I saw got us both talking. She’s an awesome person. Thankfully she has a deviantART, so check out her stuff! Follow her! She needs, nay, DESERVES, more love.

Wow, this blog post turned into a link mash-up pretty quickly.

BEFORE I FORGET! I also wanted to share this…Chris Oatley, a super-sweet dude who works for Disney as a concept artist/illustrator, is going to do portfolio critiques this Saturday. If you’d like to register and get your portfolio looked at (WHICH YOU SHOULD), you can go here: [link] I know I’m getting my portfolio looked at, even though I just make comics. You don’t have to be in or interested in getting into animation if you want him to see your stuff, though it might help.

KEEP IN MIND, though, that he has a limited number of spots. He’ll try and get to as many as he can, but he’s only one guy. The session’s going to last for a few hours, at least, so that gives him time to look at a lot of people’s work.

The deadline for sending in portfolios is tomorrow at 11 am Pacific Time. If you’re in the Midwest like me, that means at least 1 or 2 pm EST. I know that’s sudden, but it’ll be worth it. Trust me.

Ok, that’s it for now!

OH! And my webcomic “The Legend of Jamie Roberts” is STILL coming out this Saturday! Expect the first post early in the morning, though, because I have to work at my day-job that day. I’m currently making some last-minute tweaks to the website–I want this to be fabulous. <3

Don’t Forget to Be Awesome!
