Moving Day and Project Cancellations

Things at my workplace have been…turbulent for me, to say the least. Some days are awesome, but others not. And I got tired of it.

So I gave my bosses a one-day notice and I’m packing up my stuff to head home today.

It’s a sudden shift, I admit. I originally planned to stay here at the amusement park until the season was over. But I feel that it’s for the better for my emotional and mental health if I left now instead of prolonging my stay.

I’m still job-hunting, but I feel like there’s a little less pressure now, for some strange reason. Probably because I’m headed home, where I know I’ll have a place to stay while I job-hunt. Do you know how much panic comes when you realize that any day you could be homeless? NOW I KNOW THAT PANIC and I want to avoid it as much as possible. Thankfully that edge is off for now.

Also, you may have noticed that there haven’t been any new sketches of original characters lately.

That’s because I’m cancelling the Daily Character Challenge.

The project was originally intended for me to try out new styles and such, but I got caught up in other projects, most notably prepping the launch of my webcomic. Plus, the Challenge wasn’t getting the feedback I was expecting. So I decided to cancel it in favor of pursuing other avenues that I know will pay off in the long run.

This includes the webcomic. Here’s a banner image I whipped up recently:

This is Jamie Roberts, the main lead in the story. She’s currently disguising herself as a boy to go to military school, so she might become a hero like her role model, Queen Norsa of Corith.

Of course, she created the name Jamie Roberts so she could create a new identity for herself, and also to hide from her parents who might search for her to get her back home, which is the LAST place she wants to be. Her two friends, Thomas and Daniel, keep her gender a secret so she can still attend the school.

There will be more to come, so keep your eyes peeled. :D I’ll post again once I’ve settled back home and a few other things.

In the meantime, Don’t Forget to Be Awesome!

DCC: Day 5. Tigers!

Day Five of the Daily Character Challenge. I modified it so I had to get the sketch done in one hour or less, because otherwise I would spend all day on it. Hence why this particular sketch is flat.

The one in the tree is my character for today. Her name is Nizhoni, the Navajo word for “she is pretty”. She likes to stalk Lokis, the young man below, but it’s all in good fun. She wouldn’t hurt him intentionally. She’s just very playful.

This was drawn with pencil, Pigma microns, and Copic markers.

DCC and an Announcement!

Gregory. The dashing business man with a hidden silly side. That tie has skulls on it, by the way.

And….I didn’t know what to do with the background, so I just drew that.

I really wanted to just play with drawing in a more realistic style than I’m used to, so I made his eyes smaller than I usually would make them and I tried to stick to more naturalistic proportions. I’m not sure it worked this time, but I’d like to give it another go at some point. This is a style of art I want to add to my arsenal, along with my usual style and my caricaturing art style.

ALSO: The Announcement! This is very exciting.

I am currently in the plans of creating a webcomic. A long-ass webcomic. One that will take a while.

The fact that it’s long surprised me, but I have the first act scripted out, and ready to make into final pages. I’ll be outlining acts two and three over the next two weeks. I’m not worried about not finishing this: I’ve been working on this series for years, yes, but this story that I have ready, NOW, is the best I’ve made it so far, and I’m VERY confident in it. And (this is going to sound weird) the characters are ready to be seen.

You’ll recognize one of the main characters already: Thomas.

He’s one of the main characters, but the main main one is a surprise.

As for the release date? I’m projecting for sometime before the end of October. Nothing solid yet. I’ll keep you folks clued when I decide on that over the next couple of days.

But start getting excited, and Don’t Forget to Be Awesome! :D

DCC: Day 3

This is Burnt.

He’s a half-orc half-human man I created as part of a D&D campaign with my friends.

He’s calm, he’s cool, he’s collected, he’s deathly afraid of bats. And he can wield a halberd like nobody’s business.

He’s also my third character in this Daily Character Challenge, the challenge where I draw a new character every day for thirty days. I’ve got 27 more days to go!

DCC: Day 2

Day TWO of the Daily Character Challenge.

Took me a while to post this. Sorry! I ended up having a surprise sleepover at a friend’s house and I didn’t get back home until just now.

At least this temptress I drew was waiting patiently to show herself to the world.

Her name is Farunti, and she looks like some kind of genie. But she likes to lure men into thinking that, and steals their souls. Her tattoos and pointed ears reveal her demon heritage.

I was hoping her tattoos would turn out better in the scan, because they seem so light to me. Oh well.

She was drawn with Copic markers, pens, and the cloud background is watercolor.
