Week 2 of Inktober

On we go to week 2 of Inktober. If you missed my sketches from week 1, check them out in this previous post.

For those who don’t know – Inktober is an artist’s challenge to draw in ink every day in October. Usually, people create prompt lists. I pick a theme and draw to it. This year’s theme is characters from my stories! These are from comics, written work, Dungeons & Dragons campaigns, and other places.

Let’s get into what I drew for Week 2.

Day 7

Gunter, a half-human, half-Uther from my upcoming comic, The Uthers. I’ll be working on the second draft of this story for National Novel Writing Month next month!

Day 7 is Gunter, a half-man, half-uther from the upcoming comic, The Uthers. Here we see a young man with some thicker muscles, pointed ears, and white skin with tinges of green on the joints. His hands and face look human, but his feet have clawed toes. He wears a gray toga and blue cape with light green trim on it. His horns are turquoise and his helmet is deep green.

Day 8

Avery Johnson, from my webcomic Johnson & Sir. I MIGHT bring the book back into print. But if I do, there will be some big changes. (They may be big enough to warrant a second edition and a crowdfunding campaign to get it done).

a sketchbook page showing Avery Johnson, an elf man in a flowing purple dress, holding a fan with rainbow text reading "SLAY"

Day 9

Jamie Roberts, from The Legend of Jamie Roberts. If you haven’t read the comic by now, you really should. It’s free to read online.

Day 10

Virgil Weiss, from my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. He’s my bard player’s love interest. A diehard romantic, he’s enamored with Malus’ love story.

a sketchbook page showing a red-skinned demon man with white hair. His black leather jacket flies open to show off his lean chest. He holds a whip in one hand and balances a small knife on one finger in the other.

Day 11

Fuloos Abieris, from (working title) Fwishi’shi. I finished writing the rough draft on Monday (Jeff yeah!). He’s a biographer and radio show host who lives by the sea.

a sketchbook page showing a bird man with red feathers. He's wearing formal wear with sand scattering on the bottom of the pants legs. He wipes his glasses with the corner of his vest.

Day 12

Kay, from my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. The Last Valkyrie alive, they are also a Sage of the Void and sworn enemy of the Angels of Jehovah. Kay’s on a quest to rescue their mother from their clutches and kill Viktor the Arch Throne.

a sketchbook page showing a feminine-presenting genderqueer person with a white mohawk and freckles on their face, chest, and arms. As their black dress flows around them, they wield two swords and a confident smirk.

Day 13

Viktor the Arch Throne, from my Dungeons & Dragons campaign. The Angel who stole Kay’s mother. His arm had been torn off by Malus (from Day 6 last week). His quest is to kill Malus and Kay.

sketchbook page showing a man in white uniform with one arm, no eyes or nose, and a large, unnatural grin on his face. In his only hand he holds a massive bastard sword with a face in the hilt and an eye in the pommel. He has two sets of wings, one of which has golden eyes staring out. Over his head are three nested halos covered in eyeballs.

Come back Sunday at 2 pm EST! I’m drawing more Inktober sketches live on YouTube. Feel free to lurk while I work.

Week 1 of Inktober

Inktober is an artist’s challenge to draw in ink every day during October. Usually, artists will follow an official prompt list, or make their own.

I don’t do that. I pick a theme and draw to it.

In 2017, I drew Witches. In 2018, Gods & Spirits. 2019 – Dragons. Then I collected those sketches into books. In 2020, I drew Landscapes and Cats. 2021 – I drew a comic panel every day and it became Puzzlespell (coming to PDF very soon).

This year, I’m drawing my characters! These folks are from my comics, written works, and roleplaying games. At the end of the month, I fully intend on collecting these sketches into a new art book.

Without further ado, I’d like to share with you the first week of Inktober sketches – up to Day 6.

Here’s Day 1 – Acrudon, a former demon turned human from The Case of the Wendigo and the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

inktober day 1 show s a sketchbook page. In it stands a bearded man in a tacky shirt and baggy red pants carrying a box of sundries.

Follow that up with Day 2 – Claudia, a witch and Acrudon’s partner from The Case of the Wendigo and the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

inktober day 2 is a young woman in a dress covered in cloud patterns. She has red hair and a pregnant belly.

Then, Day 3 – Vanita, a witch from the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

inktober day 3 shows a pale young trans woman in a camisole and jogging shorts.

Here’s Day 4 – Clow, a guardian angel from Charlie & Clow, Charlie & Clow: The Bonus Arc, The Case of the Wendigo, and the upcoming Vanita & The Demon King (working title).

On Day 5 – Basho’s twin brother, [REDACTED], a dragon from The Legend of Jamie Roberts. (By the way, volume 1 is available in my shop).

inktober sketch showing a character from the webcomic The Legend of Jamie Roberts. This man stands with his back to the viewer, shirtless, wearing a red kilt and dark leather boots. He holds a sword on his shoulder.

Finally, for this week, Day 6 – Prince Malus, a shadow elf from my current campaign of Dungeons & Dragons. He also stars in The Prince of Shadows (a work in progress).

inktober sketch showing a tan elf holding two curved swords. His silver hair is tied back in a braid. He wears a baggy white shirt that's open to show his muscles, and black leather pants, boots, and gloves.

More sketches will be shared next Thursday! In the meantime, keep an eye on my Instagram and YouTube channels. I do live streams on those platforms showing off how I draw these sketches.

That’s all for now. Thank you for checking in!

I’m Running a Fundraiser for the ACLU!

Alright. I’m about to talk politics here, so bear with me.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Supreme Court and a lot of the bullshit they’ve been doing, and not just regarding Roe v Wade. They’ve trampled on Indigenous rights, told the EPA that they can’t do their job, and are now giving serious consideration to eliminating gay marriage and access to birth control.

Even if you think these decisions don’t affect you – they absolutely do.

I’ve mostly been silent on this on my blog and social media because I needed a more productive outlet for all this rage. I wanted to figure out what difference we can make beyond voting and riots.

That’s why I’m glad the ACLU has been working so hard. They actually blocked abortion bans in Kentucky, Florida, Utah, and Texas, and have filed a block in West Virginia. They have also been working hard on defending trans rights, among other civil liberties.

So, for the month of July, all proceeds from the sales of my prints and mini-prints will benefit the ACLU, so that they can keep up the fight. You can check out all the prints available in my Ko-Fi shop. The final tally will take place on July 31, and the donation sent on August 1. There will be screencaps for posterity.

I hope you can join me in supporting the ACLU! If you’re broke, spread the word about this fundraiser.

Thank you for your support, no matter how you show it.

You. Are. Awesome.
