Not gonna’ lie, I had a LOT of fun drawing Jamie, Thomas, and Daniel in these punk rock/Rockabilly-esque looks. I don’t draw them in modern outfits very much, so it was a treat to draw these!
When coloring them, I wanted to play with Copic markers again. In particular, I wanted to experiment with using different shades when coloring each one. If you look closely, you’ll notice that Jamie’s shadows have a blue-green hue, while Thomas has a red/burgundy hue to his shadows, and Daniel has a blue hue to his.
One of these days, I’ll put together a tutorial on how to use different colored shadows with Copic markers.
These characters are the main cast of my adventure webcomic, The Legend of Jamie Roberts! You can read it for free now on the official webcomic site.

Fun fact: the first 69 pages of The Legend of Jamie Roberts…were drawn traditionally, then colored and lettered digitally. After page 69, the comics-making process became completely digital.
Why? Well, I moved to a smaller apartment at the time. So I had to switch to a digital process to save on physical space. There was also the problem of my old scanner being in rough shape. I had to leave it behind in the move, and replacement scanners could not scan 11×17-inch pages.
Also…I wanted to achieve certain special effects in the pages of this comic. And those special effects are easier to do digitally.
I do like the work that went into these originals. I’m still very pleased with how they turned out. Yet I don’t have the space to hang them up or show them off.
So I’ve been sitting with these 69 pages in studio storage. I think it’s time they find homes where they can be shown off and appreciated more.
That’s why I’ve included these 69 pages in the Spring Cleaning Sale on Crowdfundr. There are also tons of other original art available, from sketchbook pages to pins and keychains. Plus, pages from my other webcomic projects are also available.
Shipping is free on these original pages, as well as the other big-ticket work that’s available. You have until May 6 to get these.
On Feb 20, 2024 at 6 pm EST, I’m drawing pirates and himbos for my webcomics, The Legend of Jamie Roberts and New Punk Signal. Feel free to lurk while I work!

Jamie is not a boy or a girl – they’re a pirate! And they found this unfinished map with their friends, so they’re going treasure-hunting in an unexplored land. But along the way, Jamie and friends find magic, restless spirits, dragons, and a tyrant locked away for centuries, coming back to haunt the people across the land…
Volume 1 (which will be available as an add-on) collected Chapters 1 through 4 of The Legend of Jamie Roberts. What we’re asking for is funding for Volume 2, to get Chapters 5 through 8 in one shiny book – with bonus content!
WHY?
The Legend is the story I wish I had as a genderqueer teenager, trying to figure out my gender identity and my place in the world. Jamie is the protagonist my teenage self WISHES they had.
At first, I made The Legend of Jamie Roberts to fulfill my teenage wishes. Wishes for validation, magic, dragons, and adventure. And along the way, readers found The Legend – and REALLY resonated with the story. Which is how we’ve made it to 8 chapters long! And there are plans for more. But first…
If you don’t have Volume 1 yet, that’s ok – Volume 1 is available as an add-on reward for this campaign! (You can also read the webcomic version for free, but the print edition has remastered art and bonus content not available on the website).
For Volume 2, we’re also working with a different printer – Comix Well Spring! They’re giving a partner’s discount for running this campaign on Crowdfundr, which means less printing cost, and a more affordable price for you, the backer!
So if you love pirates and dragons and magic and mayhem, what are you waiting for?!
