How You Can Help
There’s a lot to look forward to this month – from Thoughtful Dinosaur books to the launch of The Case of the Wendigo on October 18th, and more illustration updates for the Patreon page.
All of this storming creativity has made me realize…
I need to quit my day job… soon-ish.
See, I work at a craft store as both cleaning person and person who stocks shelves. As it turns out, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning the bathrooms of a 10,000 square foot store and then climbing up and down stairs moving 100+ pound boxes of books, rocks, and glass is REALLY exhausting work. And there are some days, especially recently, that feel like the job wants to pile MORE work on me for a multitude of reasons.
So… yeah, I’m going to start looking for opportunities in other avenues. I want to take it easier on my body and find some things I can do to make that happen.
How can you help? Well, here’s some ways presented in an “if-you-then-you” format.
I’m Back from New Mexico
I went on a small vacation to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico to visit Christian Beranek, co-creator of Validation.
Newsletter subscribers got some cool stories about what we did during the vacation. So for you, dear reader, I’m going to share some of the sketches I made during the trip.
We saw the lava rock petroglyphs on the outskirts of Albuquerque, so I made lots of sketches of those.
Then, on our way to some restaurants in Santa Fe, we stopped through Madrid and Cerillos.
And yes, that is a zebra on a roof with a guitar. Here’s a picture me drawing the thing in real life if you don’t believe me.

Christian took lots of pictures while we drove around, which turned out really nicely.

By the end of the trip, I felt rested and rejuvenated! It was great to get out of Ohio and West Virginia for a change and see the enormous, expansive desert that I missed so much.
I may have moved out of Arizona two years ago, but the deserts will always make me feel more at ease.
…I’m already planning a return trip next year.
Thank you for reading!
You. Are. Awesome.

Art for My Dungeons & Dragons Campaign
For those of you who don’t know yet, I’m nerdy enough to be the Dungeon Master for Dungeons & Dragons and run a home-brewed, not-based-on-any-campaign-books campaign.
So it falls to me to illustrate some things for the campaign, which I can totally do, and I’m happy to do so.
A good chunk of the campaign takes place in a section of the world called The Weird Wastes. This is a realm where all the magic in the world exists, because it bleeds from a place called The Rift. The magic in this realm can cause things like pirate ships to sail in deep forests, trees to be colored various shades of blue and violet, and for the boundary between desert and arctic to be a literal line in the sand.
The Weird Wastes also allow for unusual creatures, like Pom.
