Available for Pre-Order for 3 DAYS ONLY – Dragon Baby Pride Keychains

dragon baby pride keychain crowdfundr ad for three days only

They’re here – and they need your support!

For folks who liked my blue baby dragon keychains, you’re gonna LOVE these new Pride Baby keychains! They’re the same size as the blues, roughly 2 inches square (not counting the keyring). Plus they’re printed on one side in sturdy, clear acrylic. They also come with a protective film on the front to save the babies from scratches.

Why make a Dragon Baby keychain with LGBTQ+ pride colors? Well, to let folks know that they’re not alone. That they can be brave AND adorable at the same time. And if people take issue with that? Well, a baby dragon is still a dragon. Never meddle in their affairs (for humans are crunchy and good with ketchup).

Anyway, these babies are now up on Crowdfundr for 3 DAYS ONLY!

Why Crowdfundr?

While Crowdfundr is new (to me, and I’m sure to you, too), they’re actually sponsoring this year’s Small Press Expo – a show I’m going to!

I also spoke with a representative from Crowdfundr. These folks have worked with other comics artists, so they know what creators like me (and patrons like you) are looking for in a campaign.

Also…the platform is smooth as heck to work in. AND you can mix and match your own reward bundles!

Do you want just a keychain? You can do that. Or maybe a sticker, keychain, AND a painting? You can do that, too! Want 15 keychains and a page from Dragons: A Sketchbook? Make it happen! I’m already in love with Crowdfundr because of this mix-and-match reward system alone.

I hope you give this new platform a try – and I hope you support these Dragon Baby Pride Keychains!

If you’re broke, check out the campaign and click the share buttons. There are a TON of options, yo.

That’s all for now. Thank you for your support!

I’m Changing How I Do Streaming. Here’s What You Need to Know…

Yep, I’m changing some behind-the-scenes parts. So the way that will show on stream is going to change.

How?

Well, here’s the situation:

I had done past live streams using StreamYard. Now, StreamYard DOES allow for streaming on YouTube AND Twitch simultaneously…but there’s a catch.

In order to do this, StreamYard saves streams in its own archive. The amount of hours you can save depends on how much you pay StreamYard per month. I’m on the basic plan because I’m frugal and don’t want to spend much money. Streaming is not the most significant thing I do (it’s making comics).

However, the last stream I did made me reach my cap on the number of hours I can have stored. In order to free up space, I have to delete past recordings. And here’s where it gets weird on a technical level that I can’t figure out.

I went into the StreamYard storage of my account and deleted past recordings. (Don’t worry – they’re still available to watch on YouTube). BUT, StreamYard tells me I’m still maxed out on the number of hours I can record, which doesn’t make sense. Aren’t I making more space by deleting these recordings?

So, until I can figure out what the hell is going on here, I can’t use StreamYard to host my streams.

Instead, I will be switching to OBS.

OBS Studio is a lot more technical than StreamYard, but it’s open source and free to download. So I have some basics set up for OBS now.

The problem with OBS is – I can’t stream simultaneously on two platforms. I can only stream on one.

So, I have decided to ONLY stream on Twitch for the time being.

This DOES change how streams are archived. Twitch does have archived streams available for folks to watch – if the viewer is subscribed to the channel. Not followed, because following is free. Subscriptions cost some money. And the minimum subscription is $4.99 a month. As the creator, I can tell you that Twitch takes half that amount, so I only get $2.50 of a $4.99 subscription. It’s not my favorite cut, but it’s the one that exists.

WITH THAT SAID…

You don’t have to subscribe on Twitch if you don’t have the means.

I will still be streaming Tuesdays and Saturdays at 2 pm EST. If you would like to watch it for free, be sure to tune in at those times on my Twitch channel.

However, if you would like to watch streams that get archived, you gotta’ subscribe. If you DO decide to purchase subscriptions, know that your sub will support the comics I make and the work I do! This means better tools, which make better comics, art, and videos.

What About YouTube?

The things I post on YouTube will ALSO be changing. But I’ll share that in a later post.

If you have questions or concerns, leave them in the comments and I’ll reply as soon as I can.

That’s all for now. Thank you for your support and understanding.

The Fundraiser for the ACLU – The Results

In July, I had all proceeds from the sales of my prints benefit the ACLU.

So how did it go?

Well…truthfully, only one print sold. But I had a little extra in my budget, so I rounded up this final donation:

I advertised this fundraiser on my email newsletter and Instagram page, but not many other places. I likely could have gotten more results posting about this on TikTok and/or Tumblr. Also, next time, I’ll make a banner on this blog to shout out fundraisers. Maybe even post KickStarter updates (because I have 10+ campaign pages I can post updates to).

So let this be a lesson in marketing/getting the word out – announce things in more than one or two places!

That said, I’m glad to have made the one sale, and to make the donation to the ACLU.

That’s all for now. Thank you for your support.

I’m Running a Fundraiser for the ACLU!

Alright. I’m about to talk politics here, so bear with me.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the Supreme Court and a lot of the bullshit they’ve been doing, and not just regarding Roe v Wade. They’ve trampled on Indigenous rights, told the EPA that they can’t do their job, and are now giving serious consideration to eliminating gay marriage and access to birth control.

Even if you think these decisions don’t affect you – they absolutely do.

I’ve mostly been silent on this on my blog and social media because I needed a more productive outlet for all this rage. I wanted to figure out what difference we can make beyond voting and riots.

That’s why I’m glad the ACLU has been working so hard. They actually blocked abortion bans in Kentucky, Florida, Utah, and Texas, and have filed a block in West Virginia. They have also been working hard on defending trans rights, among other civil liberties.

So, for the month of July, all proceeds from the sales of my prints and mini-prints will benefit the ACLU, so that they can keep up the fight. You can check out all the prints available in my Ko-Fi shop. The final tally will take place on July 31, and the donation sent on August 1. There will be screencaps for posterity.

I hope you can join me in supporting the ACLU! If you’re broke, spread the word about this fundraiser.

Thank you for your support, no matter how you show it.

Live Streams Are Going on Hiatus (For a Bit)

I have been streaming live on YouTube and Twitch on Tuesdays and Saturdays for a while. However, for now, I’m putting live streams on hiatus.

Why? A few reasons…

  1. I’m working on a new schedule due to a side gig. I don’t always have Tuesdays or Saturdays off. If I return to it, the days I stream will have to change.
  2. I’m getting burnt out. I’m out of ideas for what I can stream live, and I don’t want that to show in front of a camera.
  3. I need new ideas for what to stream. The obvious answer is “gaming content” but I’m not terribly interested in that. Plus I don’t have a good set-up for that sort of thing – for tabletop OR video games.

I don’t know when (or if?) I’ll return to streams. But for now, I’m pausing so I can rest and recollect.

In the meantime, I will make an honest effort to upload to Instagram and TikTok more frequently. You can follow me on Instagram @kelcidcomics and on TikTok @kelcidc.

Also! I’m posting to this blog more frequently. That’s the plan, anyway. Stay tuned.

That’s all for now. Thank you for your understanding!
